The YAF believes that improved education in the impoverished areas of Yunnan requires both the construction of schools and the provision of funds to attend them. The schools, while practical, also provide a significant symbol for the importance of education. The YAF has agreed to help in the construction of a primary school in Shang Kuan Tang Village near Jian Shui City. This is a poor area with limited water resources. All the people belong to the Miao minority group.
　　Clean water and problems of sewage present significant health risks to most rural communities including Shang Kuan Tang and LuLa. People in our supported villages die from unclean water and bad sewage management. The YAF plans to help both communities with these problems by constructing clean water wells and instituting more modern methods of sewage management. Improved educational opportunities can not be appreciated with poor health. HIV-Aids, tuberculosis, eye problems, diarrhea and drugs still harm many areas and have not been adequately addressed. These are all problems challenging a meaningful education.
